The practice nurses hold daily clinics for dressings, removal of stitches, immunisations, ear syringing, cervical smears, blood pressure etc. Appointments can be made at reception.
The healthcare assistants work alongside the doctors and practice nurses. They are able to undertake minor dressings, blood pressure checks, weight checks, new patient checks, over 75 year old checks, ECGs, Spirometry and phlebotomy (blood tests).
The receptionists are the people who first meet you when you come to the surgery. Their aim is to make you feel welcome and to help you to see the doctor, nurse, healthcare professional or deal with your query or problem as quickly as possible. They are often under considerable pressure at busy times, please try to be patient.
It is important to understand that the appointment system and other policies have been introduced by the doctors to make it possible to give patients a better service. They have to be applied by the reception staff who do not have the discretion to make exceptions.
We have a midwifery team who hold antenatal clinics at the surgery as well as visiting new mums at home. The team members can be contacted at the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital (Telephone: 01843 292494).
Psychologist and Psychiatrist assessment are provided following referral to the KCA and/or The Beacon:
We have a Psychologist attached to the practice who works with the doctors to help those who are emotionally distressed and provide a counselling service.
In-house physiotherapy at Newington Road Surgery is provided for our patients and neighbouring practice patients. Please ask your doctor and/or reception staff.
